My mother, being German, decided she would name her litters the German way - alphabetically beginning with the letter A. Our A litter consisted of 3 males, 1 female and we set about naming them. There was an argument over what we would name the girl. Some of us liked Andrea. My 10 year old brother said Angel. So she was registered as Andrea and we called her Angel! (Her call name was a misnomer!)
Angel was a wonderful size, had a really great temperament, and then there was her forte...She had excellent front structure and often won because of it.
Pictured above at one of her first shows with a win under Peter Monks, Angel was never defeated in the classes. She finished at 15 months of age by going Winners Bitch at the Dachshund Club of America National Specialty in 1974. Unfortunately, the photographer was unable to produce a photo for us.
She also had a great Specials career, regularly winning Variety or Opposite, and not a few times in competition with her father, brother, or sons!
The year Angel was 8 eight years old, she was shown three times - at three specialties - and was Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed at all three.
She won one of the Central Ohio Dachshund Club's first sanctioned field trials and proved to be sichtlaut (loud on sight chase) at least. But we didn't know anything about field work in those days and honestly we did not know what we had.
If I could bring back one dog from the past, it would be a very difficult decision as to which dog it would be. But Angel would be among the three at the uppermost top of my list.
