It is traditional, acceptable practice in Europe to use dogs to search out and drive game animals to hunters. Dachshunds are often used in this capacity. Their "voice" while on track and in pursuit tells hunters when they are pushing game, where they are, and in which direction they are going. Nuances in the voice of a dog can also tell them if the track is fresh or not and sometimes even what type of animal the dog is running.
Track voice, called "spurlaut" by the Germans, is an important dachshund breed characteristic. In this video, you will see Ashaki has located and is running deer in her very first opportunity, and can hear her voicing on the scent line.
