Wa-T = Wasser/Water Test
Dog has passed a water test which consists of two shots being fired from a shotgun nearby while a duck is thrown 6 to 8 meters (20 to 26 feet) out into deep water, the dog swimming out and retrieving the duck and bringing it back to shore
BHP = Begliethund Prüfung/Companion Dog Test There are 3 Sections to this test:
BHP-1 = Obedience (BHP-1 consists of all of the following parts which must all be passed)
Heeling - Dog follows his handler on the left side on a loose lead, over obstacles and around trees or posts, then heels 30 meters (33 yards) off lead, then heels on leash crisscrossing through a group of people (at least 6 people, some with dogs)
Recall - Handler unleashes the dog and lets it run free for a while to a distance of 30-50 meters (33-57 yards) then handler calls the dog
Down Stay - Dogs are put in a down stay at about 10 meters (11 yards) distance from each other, handlers retreat 50 meters (57 yards), the dogs shall remain 5 minutes, during which time an assistant with a leashed dog walks past the dogs being tested at a distance of about 5 meters (5.5 yards)
Reaction to Noise - the dog moves unleashed around the area at a distance of at least 10 meters (11 yards) from the handler while the test official or an assistant bangs a metal hammer against a hanging steel pipe (dogs that run away from the noise or attempt to hide fail the test)
Reaction to People - handler commands his dog down unleashed next to his foot and stays with him at this spot while a group of at least 6 people encircle handler and dog and walk towards them slowly and non-threateningly then withdraw, then return towards handler and dog while moving quickly and energetically while clapping their hands (dog should show no flight reaction)
Reaction to Traffic - dog heels with handler on a loose lead on the sidewalk of a street with normal traffic, a bicycle rider passes very close to dog and handler ringing a bell, a pedestrian approaches dog and handler from the front, opens an umbrella next to the dog and poses a question to the handler from a newspaper he is carrying, then dog and handler the street after stopping at the curb, walk back on the opposite side of the street, and cross the street a second time (dog should act relaxed and calm towards pedestrians and traffic while following handler attentively and willingly)
BHP-2 = Search for Handler and Waiting (BHP-2 consists of two parts which must both be passed)
Search for Handler - handler and a test official's assistant quietly walk about 300 meters (330 yards) with two 90-degree turns in open or open forested terrain while dog is held by another assistant so as not to see the people depart and, when ready, the dog is set on the marked starting point of the line and must work the line quickly and must find his handler
Waiting - Dog is tied outside of a building near the entrance, handler enters the building going out of sight of the dog who must wait quietly 5 minutes while a jogger, bicycle rider, and another person with a dog walk by (if dog shows aggression, barks or whines constantly, or pulls on the leash, he fails)
BHP-3 = Attitude Towards Water
Handler throws any floating object at least 6-8 meters (20-26 feet) out into deep water and the dog voluntarily retrieves this object back to shore
BHP-G = Group or Combination title
This title is earned by the dog that passes all three Sections of the BHP test (BHP-1, BHP-2, and BHP-3) in one day
SchwKF = Schweissprüfung Färtenschuh/Bloodtracking test on a blood line made with tracking shoes
Dog has successfully tracked an artificial blood line laid in the woods that is at least 24 hours old, made by dripping 0.1 liter (0.2 pint) of deer blood 1000 meters (1100 yards), and using tracking shoes each with a deer hoof attached so that the hooves are pressed to the forest floor as the tracklayer walks through the woods, at the end of the line lies the raw hide of a deer that signifies the find
Schussf. = Schussfestigheit/Gun Shyness Test
Dog has passed a test in which the dog ranged at least 30 meters (33 yards) away from the handler in a free search while a judge signaled for two shots from a shotgun (a dog that runs away from the shot or tries to hide is gun shy and barred from DTK-sanctioned hunting tests and tests of innate abilities)
